    UN Map Depicts Separate India-China Claim Lines for Arunachal Pradesh, Aksai Chin

    UNITED NATIONS- UN on Monday has drawn attention after it appears to have depicted Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin with separate Indian and Chinese claim lines.

    UN map depicts Jammu and Kashmir with a dotted line representing the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan, and includes an explanatory note for the LoC.

    It was published on July 1, 2026, the UN map shows the southern boundary of Arunachal Pradesh with Assam as a “Chinese Line”, while eliminated the state’s boundary with Nagaland. Also, it shows ths state’s northern boundary with China’s Tibet marked as an “Indian Line,” media reported.

    In case of Aksai Chin, which India officially considers part of Ladakh, the map marked the region’s eastern boundaries as an “Indian Line” and uses a “Chinese Line” that appears to serve as a line of demarcation between Ladakh from Aksai Chin, the report highlighted.

    It depicts Jammu and Kashmir with a dotted line representing the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan, and includes an explanatory note for the LoC.

    It stated that the “dotted line represents approximately the Line of Control agreed upon by India and Pakistan. The final status of Jammu and Kashmir has not been agreed upon by the two parties.”

    It fails to mention any similar explanation accompanying the separate Indian and Chinese claim lines shown around Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin.

    The resolution, sponsored by Togo and supported by the African Union, seeks to promote more equitable representation in world maps.

    It reiterated India’s support to the “Correct the Map” resolution, the Ministry of External Affairs had on Sunday, September 6, stated that “India voted in favor of the resolution” and explained its position as a vote on the “underlying principle of promoting equal – area cartographic representation.”

    The ministry stressed that it did not amount to an endorsement of any specific map, projection or depiction of national boundaries.

    “India’s sovereign territory, including the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, must be depicted in accordance with India’s official map. Any inaccurate or misleading depiction is unacceptable,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

    Srinagar, 5th Feb: In a first-of-its-kind response, patriotic events featuring the national flag, the national anthem and Tiranga rallies were organised along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on February 5, countering Pakistan’s so-called Kashmir Solidarity Day.

    While Pakistan marked the day with a two-minute silence across the LoC in the frontier district of Kupwara, the Indian side resonated with patriotic songs and flag marches.

    At border villages such as Keran and Teetwal, residents and officials organised programmes beginning with the singing of the national anthem, followed by Tiranga rallies and cultural events. According to officials, the events were aimed at reinforcing national unity and countering Pakistan’s narrative on the day.

    February 5 is observed in Pakistan as Kashmir Solidarity Day, with rallies and diplomatic outreach intended to project support for separatist causes. In previous years, separatist groups in parts of Kashmir had also marked the day through shutdown calls and demonstrations.

    However, the situation has changed markedly in recent years. With separatist networks weakened and security forces maintaining firm control on the ground, the day saw a different response this time. Instead of shutdowns, shopkeepers in several areas displayed the national flag in their shop windows.

    A Tiranga bike rally was also organised from Trehgam to Kupwara town. Trehgam is the ancestral village of Maqbool Bhat, the founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, who was executed in 1984 after being convicted of the murder of an intelligence officer.

    Officials said the patriotic events along the LoC reflected a visible shift in local sentiment, with communities choosing to mark the day with national pride rather than protest.

    Srinagar, 13th Aug: An Indian soldier was killed in action near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector following an infiltration attempt by Pakistan-backed terrorists, official sources have confirmed. The incident, which occurred late on August 12, marks a significant provocation from Pakistan.

    According to Army sources, the intruders received firing support from the Pakistan Army, which is characteristic of attempts by its Border Action Teams. While the infiltration attempt was foiled by Indian soldiers, a gunfight ensued, leading to a soldier succumbing to his injuries. The terrorists managed to escape under the cover of bad weather. An official Army statement on the incident is awaited.

    This is the first major provocation since the uneasy calm that followed “Operation Sindoor,” India’s counterstrike to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The two nations had previously agreed to a ceasefire after Pakistan reached out to India.

    The incident comes after Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reportedly made reckless public statements while speaking in the U.S. Munir allegedly threatened to use nuclear weapons against India if his country faced an “existential threat.”

    In response, India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that “nuclear sabre-rattling” is Pakistan’s “stock-in-trade,” and expressed regret that such remarks were made from the soil of a friendly third country. The government also reiterated that India would not give in to “nuclear blackmail” and would continue to safeguard its national security.
