    ‘Convert Pressure into Performance’: Mandaviya to Asian Games Athletes

    New Delhi, 8th Sept: The Indian contingent for the Asian Games 2026 received a grand send-off in New Delhi on Tuesday in the presence of Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.

    Dr. Mandaviya, along with Indian Olympic Association President Dr. P.T. Usha, Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao and Chef de Mission Sahdev Yadav, unveiled the official contingent jersey in the presence of athletes and support staff.

    Urging the athletes to remain focused, Dr. Mandaviya said they should convert pressure into performance, see opponents as opportunities and turn opportunities into achievements. He expressed confidence that the contingent would deliver a strong performance and enhance the country’s pride.

    The 503-member contingent includes more than 300 athletes who will be making their first appearance at the Asian Games, reflecting the growing depth and emergence of new talent in Indian sport.

    Highlighting India’s recent performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, the Sports Minister said the country has ensured transparent and merit-based selection through open trials, independent observers and camera monitoring.

    Dr. Mandaviya said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision has opened new pathways for Indian athletes to compete and excel globally. He said the government’s target is to establish India firmly on the world sporting stage by 2036, with more than ₹36,000 crore allocated for sports infrastructure over the 10-year period.

    IOA President Dr. P.T. Usha said the athletes were travelling to represent India and described it as both a responsibility and a privilege. She expressed gratitude for the continued support extended to Indian sport.

    The Asian Games 2026 will be held in Japan, where the Indian contingent will compete across multiple sporting disciplines.

    New Delhi, 10th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with India’s Commonwealth Games champions and congratulated the athletes for bringing glory to the country, while highlighting the growing sports culture and ecosystem in India.

    During the interaction, the Prime Minister said the success of Indian sportspersons has a powerful impact on young people, particularly school students. He noted that medals won by athletes can inspire children more effectively than verbal encouragement.

    PM Modi emphasised that India’s sporting success depends not only on building stadiums and training facilities but also on creating a comprehensive sports culture across the country.

    He highlighted the role of initiatives such as the Khelo India Scheme and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in supporting athletes from grassroots levels and helping them progress to international competitions.

    The Prime Minister recalled several inspiring journeys of athletes who overcame injuries, hardships and other challenges to reach the podium. He said their achievements go beyond individual victories and become a source of inspiration for future generations.

    PM Modi also praised the growing international stature of Indian athletes, particularly boxers, noting that competitors globally have begun recognising the strength of India’s sporting talent.

    During the interaction, the Prime Minister highlighted instances of athletes dedicating their victories to their coaches and the armed forces, describing such expressions of gratitude and patriotism as adding to the significance of their achievements.

    He also appreciated the contribution of SAI facilities and regional sports centres in places including Varanasi and Bhopal, noting the importance of sustained support for athletes.

    Congratulating the champions, PM Modi expressed confidence that Indian athletes would continue their winning momentum and achieve greater success in future competitions.

    Jammu, 7th Feb: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting in Jammu to assess the progress of development projects across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on key infrastructure and welfare sectors.

    The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from both the Centre and the UT administration.

    Shah conducted a comprehensive review of road infrastructure, power projects, industry, tourism, and digital connectivity, including 4G and optical fibre expansion. He said the Centre remains committed to building a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Highlighting the pace of development, the Home Minister said projects in the region have made unprecedented progress due to sustained efforts by the government. He stressed the need to unlock the full potential of hydropower projects and ensure 100 per cent saturation of central welfare schemes so that benefits reach all eligible citizens.

    Shah also underscored the importance of tourism, noting continued enthusiasm among visitors from across the country. He called for aggressive promotion of Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist destinations in other states and assured full central support for developing new tourism circuits.

    Focusing on youth engagement, the Home Minister directed officials to prioritise sports infrastructure and the establishment of sports academies. He said efforts would be made to mobilise about ₹200 crore in investment through various sports bodies.

    He further emphasised the need to promote the dairy sector in the Union Territory with the support of the National Dairy Development Board.

    In a major fiscal step, Jammu and Kashmir has been brought under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme for the first time in the financial year 2025–26, enabling access to 50-year interest-free loans for capital projects. Shah said improved fiscal discipline would help stabilise the UT’s deficit over time.

    He reiterated that India is steadily moving toward the goal of a developed nation by 2047 and assured continued central support to ensure peace, security, and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
